On the Porch

Words came into my head towards dawn and I got up to get my journal and pen. I returned to bed. D got up, turned on light in next room. Please turn off the light I said as he started downstairs. Now you know how I feel he said. He left the light on but closed the door.

No matter. The room was dark and I lay in bed holding the journal and the pen and letting what thoughts come, come.

I imagined a soft summer evening you on a settee on a porch
I come to sit by you, put my arms around you
the soft night air breezes of your love
come back to me
shut the light please we’re dreaming
I am so ready for you.

I fell asleep.
